In the beginning of February, my Mom & I took a trip to Los Angeles and Las Vegas to do some serious buying for Vogue Society Boutique! Going to markets and buying clothes is hands down both my mom & I’s favorite part of owning a boutique! If you aren’t familiar with my boutique, Vogue Society Boutique, you can find out more about it in my blog post Vogue Society Boutique & How it All Started!
I’ve been to the market in Vegas before, called Magic, and made a vlog about that before my little blog existed, which is why I am focusing on the LA part of our trip in this blog! I was SO excited to go on a buying trip in Los Angeles because it is different than all the other buying trips we have been on so far. Trying not to confuse you, most buying trips consist of going to a “market” in Atlanta, Vegas, Dallas, etc which are temporary shows that are set-up at certain times of the year. What makes LA different is that it is where all of the vendors, which attend those markets, are permanently located. This is called the LA Fashion District.
Back in 2014, after I finished up my freshman year in college, my mom and I took a trip out to California together for a little bonding time. I had never been to California before and we started the trip off in San Diego (my favorite place EVER) and ended the trip in Los Angeles. At the time we were there, are dream was to open a boutique together but it wasn’t really something we were legitimately planning for- just dreaming! It was also the point in my life where I really needed to pick a solid major and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. We took a trip down to the LA fashion district and it was SUCH a cool experience, seeing vendors and their set-ups, seeing buyers walking around trying to find that perfect piece for the store they were buying for- I loved everything about it. At this point, I knew I wanted to be a buyer, which is why I made my major marketing- little did I know I would be back four years later buying for my OWN boutique!
Going back to the LA Fashion District was like Hannah Montana hopping off the plane at LAX with a dream and a cardigan. I felt like I made it and I was so excited to be there, living my dream, while buying for a boutique I love and finding the perfect Spring & Summer pieces for my VSB girlies!
We arrived Tuesday night and had a long three days of buying in LA from Wednesday through Friday. It is seriously the most fun and rewarding experience but also the most exhausting! I mean once the showrooms closed at 5pm it was time for a little pasta and a glass (or 3) of wine and I was out by 9pm every night!!
By Saturday, it was time to hop on a flight that night to continue our buying in Vegas. We spent the day taking some west coast inspired photos and grabbing In-N-Out burger…talk about a model diet!! Just kidding… I love to enjoy myself as much as I can on these trips because although it is work I am truly doing what I love and I definitely try to live it up with cute photos, good food, and hotel hot tubs and wine!
…And we ended our trip in Vegas, buying even more for our Spring and Summer lines in Vegas at the WWD Magic show. It was truly another dream work trip! Get excited for all the new merch coming to Vogue Society Boutique this season!
