What does it feel like to have a 2 year old business? Probably the same way it feels to have a child turn two years old 😂 I’m tired, going crazy, it’s having growing pains but it’s my baby and I wouldn’t change anything for the whole entire world. That is truly how it feels to have Vogue Society Boutique turn TWO YEARS OLD. Time FLEW by!
Two years ago, I was sitting in our guest bedroom (turned into half office) with probably only about 20 styles of clothing hanging in a walk in closet. I remember when I woke up the morning it was planned to launch (July 15, 2017 at noon) it felt like Christmas morning. We had been preparing to launch the business for months at this point and when the date we set to launch came, it felt like a ton of butterflies in my stomach. The unknown was the coolest, most exciting and scariest feeling. My mom had left her job, I had just graduated (& passed up an amazing job offer as well), we had moved down the east coast to Florida from Pennsylvania and frankly I had huge hopes but no idea what I was doing [read more about how Vogue Society Boutique started].
I, probably like most people, thought that it would be much easier to drive people to our website and make a ton of sales and become a millionaire (sounds easy right)?! That day our friends and family were buying a ton and I was so happy to be packing and shipping out our first orders. In the weeks following, there was probably a two week period where we didn’t get a single order. It was then that I realized this is NOT going to be a walk in the park and I am certainly NOT going to be a millionaire in a year (lol). But my mom & I had the choice to give up or push forward and figure out any way that we can build this business from the ground UP.
Ever since then, I have worked my little BOOTY off. There are some people that say they REALLY look up to me and there are also some people who probably STILL think my business is a total joke. There have been SO many ups and SO many downs. It is crazy to think how much has happened in 2 years- starting off online, popping up at a hundred different events, getting a trailer…turning it into a boutique… realizing we did NOT like driving that thing… selling the boutique trailer, getting a brick & mortar store, hiring employees.. and here we are today! I’ve also met a ton of boutique friends that are seriously some of my best friends now even though they live across the country. I’ve also connected with customers that have become friends either in store or on the internet and connected with old faces from my home town that I wouldn’t have probably gotten the chance to do if it wasn’t for VSB!
SO what is next? We are at the point right now where we need to focus in on building up our customer base. We have everything else pretty set in place and have all our ducks in a row (for the most part) when it comes to routines at the store and such. We are really focusing in one growing our name in the Sarasota area. That has definitely been one of the bigger challenges since I am not from here. It stinks because I know that Vogue Society would be SUPER… DUPER… successful back in my hometown (Dallas, PA) because there is LIMITED boutique shopping options there. And let me drop a lil secret… that may just be in my plan. I’m working really hard to grow to that point after about a million requests to open a 2nd location there! But for me personally, my heart is just really in Florida and Cody & I just really can’t see ourselves leaving Sarasota. SO we will see what we can swing.
WE also have a few HUGE ideas to really add on to our business and we are looking into some options right now. I will definitely keep you guys in the loop as we go (like always).
